Logo and Motto
The logo for the Goethe anniversary year 1999 was selected by Professor Friedrich Friedl among the best drafts handed in by students of the college for design (Hoschschule für Gestaltung) in Offenbach.
The draft by Annette Müller invokes Tischbein`s drawing ´Goethe in the Roman campagna`. This stylized figure of Goethe in conjunction with the motto ´Weltbürger Goethe - Weltoffenes Frankfurt`(´World citizen Goethe - Cosmopolitan Frankfurt) will feature as symbol for the entire anniversary programme. Posters with Goethe quotations are being designed to draw the poet to the public`s attention as well as to inspire many to pick up some of his works and read them.
